Brighton May Festival - What's On

Brighton.co.uk went along to the Brighton Festival launch party at the Dome to have a sneak preview of what we can expect from the world class arts festival this year!

Definitely not to be missed are Jarvis Cocker, Mike Leigh, Gore Vidal, Hanif Kureishi, Alex James of Blur, Manic Organic, Akram Khan Company with the National Ballet of China AND we really liked the look of Rider Spoke - off road theatre and you get to take your bike along!

So much to see and
festival fringe program isn't out yet. May will undoubtedly be busier than ever for Brighton and we can't wait!

To encourage Londoners to visit during May, Southern will be running a special festival night train service with a train leaving Brighton at 23.19, so there's no excuse for missing out.

Seems a lot more events geared towards the family and childen this year. Think that's a positive move as sometimes the Festival can seem a little stuffy and ageist.

I'm impressed that the festival has Gore Vidal this year. That has to be worth seeing. Does anybody know whether we can expect many outdoor events this year? I particularly enjoyed the late night sound and light shows we used to see in Queens Park.

A free outdoor event this year is "The Bell", performed by "Periplum with the World Famous", from 10 - 11 May at 10pm in Wild Park Moulsecoomb.

It's described as "a sensory extravaganza reborn from the ashes of apocalypse", sounds great!
