March 1- 8 is plastic bag free week in Brighton and Hove and the council is hoping that shoppers will use environmentally friendly reusable bags instead of the free ones given out by the supermarkets.
With the ongoing rubbish problems in Brighton this can only be a good thing and just requires a shift in our shopping habits to make the difference...I've started to always keep a reusable cotton bag in my work bag so when I stop at the shops on the way home I don't have to use a plastic one. It's a simple small effort that could make a huge difference if everyone did the same.

Most of the rubbish I see on the streets of Brighton is caused by the stupid refuse collectioin policy in this City. i.e. inhabitants put black rubbish bags out at night, seagulls pick holes in them, refuse collectors then pick them up, contents spill over steets... and the refuse collectors leave it there... because it's not their job to pick it up and they are not paid for doing it! There are a few obvious ways this problem could be either alleviated or sorted out entirely. God knows why the Council don't implement one of them.
Middle Street is a disgrace.
